Picnic Spot - Clare Castle Country Park, Suffolk

Clare is a small and unspoilt historic town in Suffolk, situated just over the Essex border. This area of Suffolk is rich with picturesque countryside and excellent antiques shops, which makes it a great location for a weekend break.

Located in the heart of Clare, sits the Clare Castle Country Park, which offers open space in which to have a fantastic picnic and tonnes to do besides.'

Firstly, there's the remains of the 13th Century stone castle to explore. Set upon a 70ft high motte, it overlooks the town and the views make it well worth the climb!

Elsewhere, you'll find a fantastic nature trail, the old railway and goods yard, history trails, woodland paths, a playground for the kids and a river walk with a variety of waterbirds to feed.

You can pickup eco-friendly duck food from Clare Antiques & Interiors in the old mill next to the car park. Set over 4 floors, there are tonnes of antiques and collectibles to rummage through too - a great way to work of a big picnic!

The car park is situated on Mill Lane and plenty of local farm shops, should you need to pick up any last minute picnic items.
