Picnic Spot - Horniman Gardens, London

With the weather finally warming up it's time to dust off your picnic basket and head out for some alfresco eating and drinking.... but where should you go?

Well, to help you find a great place to picnic, we'll be posting a selection of our favourite UK picnic spots.

To kick things off we start with the Horniman Gardens - a hidden gem in South East London. Who would have thought!

The 16-acre gardens are situated next to the historic Horniman Museum and are a fabulous location for a family picnic. There are jaw-dropping views over the London skyline, plenty of space for the kids to play games, an orangery and beautifully planted gardens to explore.

After you've eaten, take the kids to see the animals in the gardens (rabbits, goats, alpacas, sheep, chickens and more) and visit the museum itself, which is full of kiddie-friendly natural history and cultural exhibits. There are often events and workshops in the museum and gardens and there's even an aquarium in the basement!

Entry to the gardens and main part of the museum is FREE and they are open every day of the week.

Directions to the gardens can be found here 'and we would recommend taking a picnic backpack - which keeps 'you 'hands-free 'for exploring 'the gardens and museum.

Have fun!
